Bank Manager, Craig
“At FNBR, we have the ability to take care of our customers in a timely manner with local decision making authority.”
It took a near tragedy to bring Robert Wiens from a 30-year banking career in Montana to First National Bank of the Rockies in Craig. In June 2006, Robert, an avid pilot, experienced mechanical failure on takeoff and crash landed his light airplane in a field. He was seriously injured in the accident and found himself laid up for the next six month.
“I thought seriously about retiring at the point,” said Robert, “but I had a desire to work, be with people and go back to my roots as a commercial loan officer.” Wanting to leave the experience behind, Robert and his wife Cindy made the decision to leave Montana and begin a new life. So in July 2007 the Wiens moved to Craig, where Robert accepted a position as loan officer with FNBR.
“First National Bank of the Rockies was exactly what I was looking for,” said Robert. “I’ve always worked with smaller banks because I like to be able to serve my customers with local loan authority. Although FNBR is a larger bank, it actually allows its local managers more latitude than the smaller banks I’ve worked for. That’s important to me.”
Robert’s depth of experience and desire to work hard for his customers resulted in his promotion to Bank Manager in October 2007. Still passionate about aviation and undaunted by his experience, he plans to continue flying. He and Cindy, an elementary school teacher, also enjoy travel and the outdoors. They have two grown daughters and five grandchildren.
